"Indefinite" adjectives and pronouns

Grammarians call "aggettivi e pronomi indefiniti" a number of quantifiers. The main differences from Eng. "some, a few, several, much/many" etc. are:

  1. "di + art." for "some, a few". Examples:
"Passami del pane, per favore" ( Pass me some bread, please)
"Hanno tagliato degli alberi" ( They have cut down some trees)
"C'è della carne in frigo?" ( Is there any meat in the fridge?)

  2. "qualche" is followed by a sng. noun although it means "a few". Examples:

"E' passato qualche anno da quando l'ho vista l'ultima volta" ( A few years have gone by since I last saw her)
"Mi darebbe qualche biscotto?" ( Could you give me some biscuits?)

  3. Many of the indefinites ending with "-unque" correspond to Eng. pronouns or adverbs ending with "-ever": "chiunque, qualunque, dovunque, comunque"... ( who[m]ever, whatever, wherever, however...)
