Adverbs

It. tends to be less strict and regular than Eng. as regards the position of adverbs (and of phrases functioning like adverbs) in the sentence.

In particular, adverbs of time are often placed at the beginning of a sentence in answering: "Che cosa hai fatto ieri?" "Ieri sono andato al cinema" ( What did you do yesterday? I went to the cinema yesterday)

Unlike Eng., It. adverbs of manner may occur between a transitive verb and its object: "Omar parla bene l'italiano" ( Omar speaks Italian well).
