Alliterations and Rhymes

Alliteration is at work in It. but few Italians are aware of it. There are alliterative idioms like "sano e sano, vivo e vegeto, tagliare la testa al toro" ( safe and sound, alive and kicking, to come to a decision) and many others but only rhymes are usually recognised as effective.

In our literature there are no poems about "fields full of folk" but sonnets and other forms of poetry where rhymes are essential. Dante's Divina Commedia is written in "terza rima", that is, rhyming triplets.
